Luck

I can't tell you how many times we have been stopped by strangers who tell us how "lucky" we are to have our twins.  It gets old very quickly to be stopped every few minutes while out by people who assume that our journey has been easy.

It has nothing to do with luck.  We have worked very hard to get where we are.  We never stopped trying, even in the face of brutal diagnoses and doctors telling us that our efforts were futile.  We researched medicine, we called many doctors who might help us in our plight, and met some pretty amazing people along the way who inspired us.  Luck is not part of this equation.

The equation looks more like this:
Love Between K2 and Me + Support From Family and Friends + An Incredible Medical Community + People Believing In Us = Two Beautiful Babies Who Are the Lights of Our Lives

But...you can't tell this to the nosy woman in Wal.Mart who thinks that babies fall out of trees.  Instead, we simply smile and say, "Yes, we are very lucky".

  2. As someone who struggles with infertility issues myself, I completly understand what you mean. Most people, people who can get pregnant by sharing the same bar of soap with someone of the opposite sex, have NO CONCEPT of what it takes for some people to not only concieve, but carry a healthy baby to term.

That being said, however, do you think they're maybe suggesting that you're lucky to have twins? Regardless of how they got here, they're possibly just saying that, as opposed to having just one baby, you're lucky to have two beautiful babies. Maybe??

  3. Bio or adopted, it does get old to hear the "L" word. These struggles are real, raw and long arduous journeys. I'd say you are blessed by love, perseverance and community (friends, medicine, etc)

  5. Yup! Yesterday, was actually the first time someone in a store commented on our daughters height (we have no height) asking about where it came from and we just smiled and said we didn't know, but she is beautiful and perfect. Instead of saying she's adopted so we have no clue.

  6. Most folks will never be able to understand what we've been through to have our families.

I am getting much more braver to find ways to put nosy people in their place. It is very theraputic.
